Alejandro Casado, Accountable Manager, warns about the disparity of criteria depending on each country.

The airline takes part in the 4th Sustainable Aviation Forum organized by El Economista.

Alejandro Casado, Accountable Manager of Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas, called for reflection on the lack of homogeneity in international environmental regulations, which currently impose different requirements depending on the airline’s country of origin, during his participation in the 4th Sustainable Aviation Forum organized by El Economista.

Casado stressed the need for a common framework so that everyone plays by the same rules. It makes little sense that American flights use one CO₂ emissions reporting scheme and Europe another. We would like ICAO not only to set targets, but also to define how to achieve them,” adding that “this disparity creates an aviation industry that is far more economically sustainable in some regions than in others.

The executive also highlighted operational efficiency as one of the keys to sustainability, noting that fuel represents 30% of the airline’s direct operating costs. In this regard, Plus Ultra has achieved a 1.3% reduction in fuel consumption in just one year, supported by a solid technology investment strategy. This includes the use of advanced software to optimize onboard weight and the implementation of programs that plan more efficient flight paths in real time.

Casado explained that Plus Ultra complements this technological approach with in-cabin sustainability measures, such as reducing single-use plastics, reusing textiles, and improving the efficiency of potable water loading on each flight — actions that also contribute to weight reduction and fuel savings.
